Mr. Phillips spend most of his career working in Yukon as a small business owner. He was appointed as Yukon Administrator in April 2007 and held this position until his appointment as Commissioner of Yukon In December 2010.

Mr. Phillips’ political career lasted over 15 years. He was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly on May 13, 1985 as the representative for Riverdale north. He also held the following positions:

·         Minister of Tourism

·         Minister of Education

·         Minister responsible for the Women’s Directorate

·         Minister of Justice

·         Minister responsible for the Public Service Commissioner

Mr. Phillips’ passion for his community and Yukon led him to a long career of active community service:

·         Director of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous committee for several years

·         Member and President of the Yukon Fish and Game Association. He was instrumental in the association joining the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

·         Mount White Goat Transplant

·         Improvement to the Whitehorse Fish Ladder project and the children’s live release of Chinook salmon at Wolf Creek.
