  • By 1897 many miners were arriving in Dawson. Charles Constantine, who was in charge of all affairs required to govern the area, was feeling increasing overwhelmed and requested that someone be brought in to oversee the territory. As a result, Thomas Fawcett was appointed.
  • Thomas Fawcett served briefly as Yukon's first Gold Commissioner.  He was not very popular and was accused of incompetence and corruption.
