The Commissioner's Awards

The Commissioner's Award for Public Volunteer Service

Honours an outstanding individual who has made a significant volunteer contribution to Yukon business, academics, arts, culture or society. This individual is recognized for work outside of their regular employment.

The Commissioner's Award for Bravery

Honours an individual who has performed an outstanding act of bravery. This individual is recognized for their attempt to save the life of another, usually in hazardous circumstances and at great personal risk.

The Outstanding Youth Achievement Awards

The Outstanding Youth Achievement Awards are sponsored by the Youth Directorate in partnership with the Office of the Commissioner.

Recognizes youth 18 years old and under who have performed an outstanding or extraordinary service for their community; and/or have made positive contributions and demonstrated leadership in their activities by volunteering their time, energy and talent for the betterment of their community.


  • Nominees must be 15-20 years of age by April 1st of the nomination year

  • We are looking for youth who:

    • Act as leaders and good role models in their communities

    • Volunteer their time to help others

    • Do work which benefits and helps to create positive change within a Yukon community

    • Take initiative

Each recipient will:

  • Receive a cheque for $250, along with a unique OYAA poster featuring his or her photo and accomplishment biography, from the Youth Directorate. These posters will be distributed throughout Yukon communities. A photo-shot for each recipient will be held in their respective communities to get just the right shot for the poster.

  • Receive a framed certificate of recognition from the Commissioner's office. This certificate will be presented by the Commissioner: each recipient may choose to receive it at either one of the Commissioner's Events, in his or her home community, or on another occasion of his or her choice.

  • Be featured on the Youth Directorate website, and a Government of Yukon news release.
