Commissioner's Awards

The next deadline for nominations for Commissioner's Awards is October 30, 2009.

The Commissioner's Award for Public Volunteer Service

Honours an outstanding individual who has made a significant volunteer contribution to Yukon business, academics, arts, culture or society. This individual is recognized for work outside of their regular employment.

The Commissioner's Award for Bravery

Honours an individual who has performed an outstanding act of bravery. This individual is recognized for their attempt to save the life of another, usually in hazardous circumstances and at great personal risk.

The 2008 Commissioner's Awards for Bravery were presented during Canada Day celebrations in Whitehorse. Benjamin Correos was honoured for sacrificing his own life to save his son Myles from drowning in the Yukon River. His widow, Josephine Correos, accepted the award on his behalf. Brendan Preston also recieved the award for his efforts to save Correos.
